THE DESERT WILL HOLD YOU is a series of three abstract paintings inspired by the simultaneous softness, and harshness, of the desert. It is my first painting series of 2022.
The three pieces are done in the same neutral color palette with an increasing freedom and boldness of stroke from I to II to III. Each piece is intended to be standalone, but the series works nicely as a triptych or in any combination as a diptych.
The title of the series is borrowed from a poem from my upcoming book, “Love Letters to Melancholy (And Other Things I Found in the Desert),” and is also the title of a recent Desert Mini painting. Desert Minis is my NFT project that chronicles my first year as a desert resident via a series of daily paintings and diaristic entries. The funds from the NFTs are being used to self-publish the book; it is one of the first NFT projects to do so. As of last weekend, over 100 minis have been collected.
